Is it possible we have more fun partying than working out?
Judging by all the smiles and laughter Saturday night, I think it may be a close call.
Over 40 of us gathered to enjoy great food and good times with friends and loved ones. Fabulous entertainment was provided by folks playing games requiring inordinate skill and bravery. For some, a good buzz!
Here's a short video with some sights and sounds from the evening (move cursor outside the video window for best viewing).
Congrats to our game winners:
Jason, fastest to don a Coconut Bra & Grass Skirt and Hula Hoop 10x.
Pastor Paul & Cedric, longest Hula Hoopers.
Jules & Pastor Paul, Limbo masters.
Kerrie, closest guess in the Soap Count (guess: 157; actual: 162).
(Sorry, no prizes awarded to the best Corn Holers)
Mahalo (thank you) to everyone who came to the party and to Kim & Andy for opening up their beautiful home to us.
Don't forget to enter the race belt giveaway below!

Is it possible we have more fun partying than working out?

1. It's that time of the month again, time to name the new Triathlete of the Month. Is it you? Check out the bright green box in the center column to find out who it is!
2. For those who like knowing their swim, bike and run paces but don't like computing them from race results that don't show them (i.e, Buttar), here are some useful Triathlon Calculators to help with that.
3. A Louis Garneau Race Belt giveaway!
If you want it, just tell us in the comments what your main goal is this year in training for triathlons. It can be a specific race, a fitness goal, a time or competitive goal, whatever it is that is driving you. The winner will be drawn at random and must be a member of the Blanchard Park Y Tri Club. Comments will be accepted until Monday, 6/7, midnight eastern*. Previous giveaway winners may play again and even if you already have a race belt, why not play and give it to a friend if you win?
Good luck and hope everyone has a fun, safe holiday weekend. More giveaways at the Luau Party Saturday night!!
*Date extended to allow out those who go out of town over Memorial Day weekend to play.
Congratulations to Will for being named ‘Triathlete of the Month’ for May!
Will has shown GREAT improvement these last couple of months. He's driven, dedicated, and always working his tail off. I'm very proud of his "I don't give up" attitude. What's impressive is when he's away on business. He asks me for the weekly workouts and sends me the details of how he did for his practices. I see the desire he has to be the best he can be and I'm very honored to hear him call me "Coach!" Will competed last weekend in his first every triathlon at Baldwin Park. He placed 2nd in the 'Novice division' and would have placed 3rd in his age group had he raced in that category. Thank you Will for being on our team and for encouraging others. You inspire all of us....and you're that guy that makes us all laugh! You deserve this honor! Go get 'em!!!

Wow, I think cheering at a tri maybe nearly as much fun as racing one!
We had five club members in the Baldwin Park Sprint Tri today, two doing their first-ever tri. This year the race started a half hour earlier (7am vs. 7:30am) to help beat the heat. The water was nice and calm. The bike course was great for spectating because the athletes went by 5(!) times. And the run ended with a long finishing chute making for some exciting finishes.
Here are a few photos from the race. I'll put together a slideshow with more once I get them from others.
And here's how our team members fared:
Erik H - 1:10:53, 3/9 M25-29. First open water swim tri!
Will - 1:11:29, 2/34 M Novice. First tri!
Julie - 1:27:14, 3/6 F20-24. YAY, Buttar found her results!
Kerrie - 1:38:37, 6/14 F Novice. First tri!
Roy - 1:09:15, 1/1 M Relay. Back racing after a bike crash last month!
Full race results can be found here. Way to go, team!

Another WONDERFUL weekend workout!
Today around 16 BPY tri club members showed up at Lucky's Lake. For many it was their first time swimming at Lucky's. For some their first time swimming in open water EVER!
Coach Jacklynn paired people up so no one swam alone unless they were comfortable doing so. Anything goes at these swims. You can do any stroke, you can swim as far as you want and bring anything you want (pull buoy, fins, noodles, etc). Safety and fun first!
There were nearly 200 swimmers total and water conditions were ideal. For those who have concerns about gators, Lucky has placed a couple fake ones right at the water's edge ;-)
Here are some photos:
Great job to everyone who swam today and congrats to all those who completed their first Lucky's Lake crossing (over and back = 1000m) and signed the "Wall of Fame"!!!

It's time to celebrate summer 'Tri Team.'
So get ready to embrace the sun.
There won't be any hill workouts guys.
Just good ol' fashion fun!
Wear your fun Hawaiian style shirt or dress.
We're going to have a ball.
No! There won't be any swimming laps this time around.
Just fun music and good food for all.
Let's enjoy a relaxing night
And spending time with one another.
I promise, leaving your bikes behind at home
Won't be a penalty or a bother.
Spouses are welcome!
Significant others too!
But leave the kids behind this time because
We want them to have fun at their own "zoo."
Saturday, May 29, 6pm. Save the date!!!
(If you didn't get the Evite, please email the tri club - see top of the right column)
